Topic:

Magic, Murder & the Weather (The “Art” of NOT Gardening) – A Celebration of Gardens of the Sun

William MartinHe comes from the land down under, so perhaps that’s why he has such a unique perspective and fresh, frank approach to both art and gardening. Join us at our March meeting as we present special guest speaker, the outspoken rebel with a cause, Australian landscape designer William Martin.

Martin is most famous for his creatively flamboyant garden, Wigandia, which has created such a buzz throughout Australia that it has twice been voted that nation’s favorite. Visitors travel from all across the continent to marvel at the specimens Martin has collected from the world over. Demonstrating how plants can thrive in dry environments is Wigandia’s vision.

Mr. Martin’s provocative presentation will bring Wigandia to life as he reveals his insights and philosophy on the magic of gardens and gardening.  He promises to confess his plans for the murder of wasteful and unnecessary garden practices and share his mission to influence the way gardeners work with the climates they’re given, not the climates they wish they had.

In addition to his landscape design work, William Martin is an accomplished artist whose work can be viewed on his web site at www.wigandia.com. Some of his striking prints will be for sale at the meeting.

“My garden, Wigandia, is my studio... My pictures are an extension of my garden... I am creating from the ground up!” exclaims Martin.

The Plant Raffle was provided by Bill Baker of California Gardens in Reseda.
