Tea Roses for Warm Gardens: The Very Best Roses for Southern California

The tea rose class contains the very best kind of roses for Southern California because they are fragrant, healthy, beautiful and do best in the area’s climate. People in colder climates can’t grow these special roses, but we in southern California can and should. Learn about all the wonderful tea rose varieties available for your garden from rose expert and writer/editor/photographer/tour leader William A. Grant.

Born in Bisbee, Arizona, William A. Grant attended schools in Los Angeles and did undergraduate work at the University of San Francisco and graduate work at Long Beach State College, University of London and Gothenberg University in Sweden. The recipient of two Fulbright scholarships to study in Europe, he has taught in colleges and universities in California for over forty years.

Mr. Grant was the assistant editor of the widely popular book Botanica’s Roses published by Random House in 1999 and the editor of the paperback edition published in 2001. His garden articles and photographs have appeared frequently in Pacific Horticulture, American Rose Magazine, Royal National Rose Society Magazine (U.K.), Hortus and in various other magazines in the United States. England, France, Australia and New Zealand over the past forty years.

Bill is a popular lecturer worldwide. He is also the founder and a past president of the California Garden History Society, and president and board member of the University of California at Santa Cruz Arboretum Associates. Bill Grant lives in Aptos, California, where his collection of roses and Australian plants grows each year.
