Program:
Indulging Our Senses in the Native Garden
A garden filled with California native plants can be so much more than visually delightful. In Carol’s illustrated talk, she discussed other compelling reasons to plant your garden with natives – smell, taste, touch and sound – with many examples to satisfy each sensory receptor.

Carol Bornstein is one of Southern California’s most highly respected native plant specialists. She co-authored the award-winning book, California Native Plants for the Garden, with Dave Fross and Bart O’Brien and is currently collaborating with them and Cachuma Press on a book about lawn alternatives.
Carol earned her B.S. in Botany from the University of Michigan and her M.S. in Horticulture from Michigan State University. She served as horticulturist at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden for 28 years.
Opportunity Drawing
Plants for the Opportunity Drawing will be provided by the Theodore Payne Foundation.
Book of the Month
We offered two book selections that compliment Carol’s talk: Gardening with a Wild Heart by Judith Larner Lowry and California Native Plants for the Garden by Carol Bornstein, David Fross and Bart O’Brien.
