Landscape Plants for California Gardens

Bob PerryA presentation by Bob Perry, landscape architect, author and Professor Emeritus at Cal Poly Pomona.

An attractive, water-conserving garden is the goal of all forward-thinking Californians. Key to achieving this goal is knowing which plants suit a particular aesthetic and have compatible water and maintenance needs. In his illustrated lecture, Bob provided examples of garden designs using various plant palettes that feature Mediterranean, California native and arid climate plant species.

Bob Perry is Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona. Having focused his career on the study of plants and water conservation, he is the author of three books: Trees and Shrubs for Dry California Landscapes (1980), Landscape Plants for Western Regions (1992) and most recently, Landscape Plants for California Gardens (2010).

A licensed landscape architect since 1972, Bob has actively participated in many professional projects where his expertise on California native plants and landscapes for water conservation has been applied and refined. He continues to be an active proponent of resource conservation in landscapes through his teaching, writing, public speaking and professional work.
