    Ruth Borun Lecture Series featuring:

    John and Molly Chester
    of The Biggest Little Farm

In this timely and dynamic presentation, John Chester will take us through the triumphs, tragedies, and lessons learned while he and his wife Molly built Apricot Lane Farms. Clips from the soon to be released The Biggest Little Farm:The Series will show how they learned to see beyond conventional, human solutions to farming problems, and instead embrace subtler solutions that nature offers.

Please note: Due to network distribution restrictions, video clips from The Biggest Little Farm: The Series will be shown exclusively to our in-person audience. The Zoom broadcast will include the live speakers but not the series footage.

Afterward, Molly will join John for an extended Q and A session. For more information on the Chesters, see our Ruth Borun Lecture Series Page.

Behind the Scenes OF Apricot Lane Farms

    Habitat Areas

We are excited to invite you on a special guided visit to Apricot Lane Farms on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

We'll begin this unique experience with an orientation talk at the Garden Barn, where we'll also learn about how the Habitat Team cares for the dozens of Bluebird and Barn Owl boxes on the farm.

With our Apricot Lane Tour Guides we'll break into 3 groups for a 1 mile walk on gravel roads, stopping at several highlights manned by Habitat Team members. (Watch for the blooming native Hummingbird Sage in the Apricot Orchard, and many other blooming natives on the way to your first stop.)

    Stops will include:

    •  A new Coastal/Channel Islands Habitat.
    •  Alan York Overlook, with views of the blooming stone fruit orchard, avocado groves and an interesting habitat for our native weasel.
    •  Pollywog Pond, beautifully planted with natives, and currently being evaluated to host the endangered Red Legged Frog.
    •  We'll all reconvene in the massive Vermiculture Barn, where we'll learn about the hows and whys of worm composting.
    • With a combination of electric carts and visitor cars we'll end our tour at one of the Habitat Teams' most ambitious projects. Elderberry Creek is a formerly straight, concrete lined channel that was redesigned into a meandering rocky stream lined with thousands of California Native plants.
